Rivalry Renewed

It’s what everyone, particularly David Stern, was hoping for - a Boston Celtics and LA Lakers final. It was a long time ago (back in the 80s) when these two teams were both relevant at the same time and it was during that time that one of the great rivalries in the NBA was built. Bird vs. Johnson is held up as one of the all-time greatest individual rivalries, setting the stage for the storied team rivalry between the East Coast and West Coast franchises.

Now we have Bryant vs. Garnett (and may we say thank goodness, as another Pistons-Spurs, or Spurs vs. anyone was a depressing thought).

It all starts tomorrow night in Boston. The Celtics are 2.5-point favorites on home court, but the Lakers are the reasonably heavy favorites to win the series (-200).

Early betting action at SPORTSBETTING.COM likes Kobe and crew, as they have received 68% of the series money. As for Game 1, the money has been evenly split, with the Celtics picking up 53% of all the wagering action on that tilt.

Hopefully the games live up to the hype and we get a competitive six or seven game series. Enjoy it.
