Earnhardt Jr. Looks For Texas-Sized Win

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Junior is on the pole for today’s Samsung 500, at the Texas Motor Speedway. Listed at 4-1 to win it all, Earnhardt Jr. will be sitting besdie Carl Edwards on the first row. Edwards is also at 4-1 odds to win the race. Look for both Matt Kenseth (8-1) and Greg Biffle (10-1) of Rousch Racing to compete for the win as well, as this team always has a good set-up at TMS.

The race goes at 2:15 on Sunday afternoon.

So Carl Edwards Cheated?

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

We missed this story yesterday, but it appears the winner of last weekend’s NASCAR race in Las Vegas pulled a little trick (or he and his crew did) to gain an edge. When Edwards crossed the finish line in first place he did so with the cover off his oil tank, which apparently can give you up to an extra 10% of performance.

NASCAR found this out and hit Edwards and the team with a pretty stiff penalty, docking him 100 points, fining him $100,000 and a six-race suspension for his crew chief. We’ll see if they appeal.

Four In A Row For J.J.?

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

NASCAR’s Las Vegas weekend culminates with the UAW-Dodge 400 this afternoon. Jimmie Johnson isn’t the favorite (Jeff Gordon is at 5-1), but players at SPORTSBETTING.COM have been increasingly backing Johnson heading into the Sunday event. Clearly bettors are aware of his past history at this track, as he has won the last three races there.

Johnson’s odds currently sit at 6-1, with pole sitter Kyle Busch also at 6-1.

You can watch the race on FOX at 4:45 EST.

It Was Newman’s Night

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Ryan Newman upset all the big favorites (Dale Earnhardt Jr. Tony Stewart, the Busch brothers, Jeff Gordon, etc.) and won the 50th running of the Daytona 500. It was an exciting day of racing, with the race up for grabs right into the final turn, as Newman received help from teammate Kurt Busch to blow past Tony Stewart for his first 500 victory.
