With a unanimous decision against Steve Forbes on the weekend under his belt, Oscar De La Hoya can now turn his focus to a September bout against Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather Jr. with “Golden Boy” De La Hoya a +225 underdog.

With a bout against Mayweather Jr. on the horizon, Oscar De La Hoya will warm up against Steve Forbes this weekend in Carson City, California.

Golden Boy De La Hoya is a prohibitive -400 favorite to take the bout by decision.

Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF champ, is the favorite in tonight’s bout vs. Sultan Ibragimov, the WBO champ. This is the first unification match since 1999, when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield. Klitschko holds a four-inch height advantage and weighed in 19 pounds heavier.

Middleweight Champion of the World, Kelly Pavlik (33-0, 29 KO’s), scored a unanimous decision over Jermain Taylor, (27-2, 17 KO’s), in front of an energetic crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last night. It was Pavlik’s second defeat in as many tries vs. Taylor, as he also won their 2007 bout.

The feature bout is the rematch between Kelly Pavlik and Jermain Taylor, who squared off in what was, for our money, the best fight in 2007. The last couple of days we’ve made posts related to both the Heisman award and the boxing match between Hatton and Mayweather Jr. Last night both events provided a winner. In New York, the heavy favorite Tim Tebow become the first sophomore to ever win the Heisman Trophy for outstanding play in college football.

Later that evening in Las Vegas, Mayweather’s backers cheered their winning tickets when he scored a TKO in the 10th round. Mayweather was a -240 favorite by the time the first punches were thrown. 

The countdown to the big bout between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is getting closer, as the betting has been brisk all day in the closing hours before the opening bell.

The option of Mayweather Jr. winning by decision has been popular with the bettors throughout the day, but money is starting to come in on Hatton by KO-TKO-DQ. 

Right now Mayweather is -200, while Hatton sits at +160.
