Is This Philly’s Game to Lose?
This is the spot the Flyers have been in all post season. They’re out of it. Their backs are to the wall. They’re too tired, they’re goal tending stinks and they can’t keep up.
They’ve been here for three months. And for three months they’ve had to dig themselves out of a hole and come up big. It’s cute when a team does it once, it impressive to see it a couple of times, but to end up in a Game six of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals playing like that is down right mind boggling.
The NHL Playoffs rarely rewards this type of play. The Hockey gods will always let you get a good break, or a solid comeback on your way to the Cup, but you don’t build your entire post season run upon it!
So, does Philly have another one in them tonight? A comeback to force a game seven and ruin the party for the Blackhawks.
The Flyers Stanley cup playoff odds for game 6 are currently put them at barely moneyline favorites at -107, with the Blackhawks a teeny underdog at -117.
The Flyers were completely shelled in game 5, but their game plan against the Hawks have been the same each time out – withstand the early, high energy onslaught by Chicago, then grind them down over three periods. The problem in Game 5 was the onslaught, and once the Blackhawks get going, you don’t catch them.
I think in game six we will see more of the same, but Chicago won’t steamroll into the big early lead. This will be tight, but in the end we will see a game 7 back in Chi-town.
